By Air
Faro Airport

Various national airlines have regular flights to the Algarve, making Faro a busy international airport.

They have a really good website here
or
you can call them on one of these numbers:
Tel.: 289 800 800 (General)
Tel.: 289 800 801 (Flight information until midnight)
Tel.: 289 800 617 (Flight information after midnight)

Some people choose to arrive via either Lisbon airport or Seville Airport, both of which are around three hours away by car. Spain is one hour ahead of Portugal.

By Road

The Algarve also benefits from a good road network, composed of motorways, trunk roads and a range of secondary roads, making the journey comfortable and efficient whether you’re travelling by bus or driving in a rented car.

In Portugal, cars drive on the right. Safety belts must be worn at all times by all passengers, whilst motorcyclists must always wear helmets. Specific legislation is in force banning the use of mobile phones while driving, except when using hands-free equipment.
Traffic signs comply with international conventions.
When driving, the maximum level of alcohol permitted in the bloodstream is 0.5 grams/litre.
There are 24-hour service stations in main urban centres, as well as on motorways and main roads. Other petrol stations have variable opening hours.

Maximum speed limits for passenger vehicles without trailers and motorcycles:
In built-up areas: 50km/hour
On main roads: 90km/hour
On clearways: 100km/hour
On motorways: 120km/hour

Compulsory documents:
Identity card or passport
Driving licence
Insurance certificate
Vehicle log book and proof of ownership

By Train

Rail transport is another alternative for visitors to the region. The Portuguese rail service (CP - Comboios de Portugal) has a vast network of trains to places all over the country.

Their website is here

The station nearest us is Olhao, this is about a 15 minute walk away from the boatyard.

Intercity trains are fully equipped, air conditioned, fast and comfortable and
connect to various cities in Portugal, such as Porto-Lisbon-Faro

For trans Algarve services between Lagos, Faro and Vila Real de Santo António you will be using the Inter-regional trains, these are a little more basic but are cheap and nearly always on time.

Buses
You can get a bus from Faro train station to the airport. You need to exit the station and turn right, then walk to the coach station (about 5 minutes). The bus stop is oppersite the coach station.
Bus services run from Faro to all major towns and cities including Lisbon and Seville.
